19thC Engraving of a Master with Hounds
A good, signed, framed engraving after Victorian equestrian and portrait painter Stephen Pearce (1819 - 1904) of a Master of Hounds with his hounds with Herstmonceaux Castle, East Sussex, in the background.
The Master in question is Herbert Mascall Curteis, who owned Herstmonceaux in the mid to late 19thC. Son of Herbert Barret Curteis, MP, who bought the castle in 1846, Herbert Mascall was not only Master of the East Sussex Foxhounds but also a criketeer who played for Sussex.
